Summer is in full swing! For many of your friends and family members that means the focus is on relaxation and vacations.
But not for us fundraisers, right?
We’re standing at the precipice of the busiest time of the year: 4th quarter. The months when most of our fiscal year budget is met or not. So, our minds are on planning spreadsheets and strategy documents instead of sandcastles and barbeques. They have to be, in order for all of this to work…right?
I like to compare the busy season to a roller coaster ride. Right now, you and your team are strapped in and slowly inching up the first hill. It won’t be long before you’re hurtling down and around the tracks. There will be ups and downs, maybe even some loops. There’ll be slower spots as you climb another hill, followed by another burst of speed.
And then all of a sudden, it will be over.
Come January, you and your team will return back to the station, probably exhilarated and definitely exhausted.
So, since the busiest time of the year is approaching whether we want it to or not, I want to encourage you to take a moment right now and stop working. Nope, that’s not a typo. Stop.
Over the next few months, you probably won’t get many chances to pause, take a step back and breathe.
Do so now.
You’ll better serve your team, your organization, your donors, and your family if you are rested and ready.
